Busy-ness in the N'alb

Yesterday, despite the cold and rain, was a busy down around the increasingly bustling streets of New Albany.ty

I drove down Main St and saw the gorgeous purple sheen of the Cabinets by Rick truck in front of the old Abe Rental building. Then I came home to discover some wonderful sights. The little red shotgun house across the street was actually having work done. After being bought and then sitting empty for several months, this was a sight for sore eyes. The best news?? When I went over to introduce myself, I was informed that they are indeed looking to fix it up and sell it! That means one less rental property in our fair city. Woot!!

Finally, yesterday ended with a delightful social venture to the SpeakEasy Jazz Club on State St. This was my first visit there, after being put off by scheduling and quite frankly the so-so reviews I'd heard on the service. The service lived up to it's reputation unfortunately, however it was easy to be distracted by the 18 (?) piece big band that started performing around 8. Not only was the music swinging, but we were treated to the students of Shall We Dance showing off their moves.

All around a good day in the city, one that was well sought after. I am patiently awaiting reviews from the other two events that went down last night, that will have equally large impacts on our city.

I'm an addict

Ok, so, I have a confession to make. There are some days when I can't make it through without a drink. When I get up in the morning sometimes I count the minutes till I can have another one.

A nice, ice-cold, fountain fresh Coke. Yummm.

I went until 6:30 today without one, and well, let's just say it won't happen again. To quote one of the funniest movies ever, Once it hits your lips, it's so good!!!

Your vices?

No Naps

I think Bean is trying to wean himself off naps. For the sanity of yours truly this cannot happen. I know he still needs the naps cause if he doesn't have one come 3 o'clock it's fresh hell.

Keep your fingers crossed that maybe he was just having an off week.

Harvest Homecoming Head-butting

Adam and I look forward to Harvest Homecoming all year. It's the food mostly, following in a distant 2nd the reunions. It's a great opportunity to for local organizations to make money and raise awareness. But what about the local business's that invest in downtown all year long?

One business that I frequent 2-3 times a week had to close HH weekend because she couldn't even set up her outside tables and there was no way for patrons to get to her store front. When she sought out HH officials to find a solution and perhaps discuss how she could get the booth space in front of her store next year, she was basically told she was S.O.L. I am at a loss for words. These business's need out respect and support more then anyone. They are the ones who see the long term value in downtown, they see the glimmer and shine still left in the buildings. There has been some discussion about downtown business owners about getting together and rallying for next years HH, I will fully support any of these business's and desire to have equal representation at HH.

These downtown business's should be given first opportunity to get the booth space in front of their stores/restaurants. Or we can always move the location of HH. There's the 4H fairgrounds or the waterfront...So many options but such a long way to go.

Any other ideas out there in blogville?

Dyson how do I love thee...

A few weeks ago, we used some money from our savings account to by a Dyson vacuum. (WM had them on sale plus a $100 gift card!). Oh my gosh. The first night we actually fought over who got to use it first. It sucked up so much junk off the floor AFTER sweeping it, I started to gag a little bit. We don't even have carpet.

I try to vacuum the floors 2-3 times a week and it picks up such a large amount every time, i'd be frightened to space it out any more.

Bottom line, if you have the means to get a Dyson, do it. You won't be sorry.
