Awesome Music You Need to Own

Back in February, I was lucky enough to win tickets to see Over the Rhine at the Center for the Arts. Ben Sollee was the amazing opening act. His musical style is right up Adam's and mine's ally, with just a hint of bluegrass thrown in.

We've been patiently waiting for his cd, Learning to Bend, to be released and it officially was yesterday. It's just as good as he was live.

Here's a video for his song, "It's Not Impossible". The video's not my kind of thing, but the song kicks it and it was filmed right here in Louisville's own skate park.

  1. Ceece,
Glad to see you and Adam discovered Ben. He's a great talent. He played at the opening when Karen curated a show at 21C last year.
The video was done by our friend Valerie Fuchs. It was originally created, in conjunction with Ben and a local dance troupe, as part of Valerie's most recent exhibition at Gallery Nulu.
She had another piece in the show that featured Ben playing his cello with a rifle.
You should also check out the Sparrow Quartet. It's Ben along with Abigail Washburn, Bela Fleck, and Casey Driessen. They got play Tibet a couple years ago and some their Asian excursion is on YouTube also.

  2. oh thanks bluegill for the background information! The Sparrow Quartet is pretty good! I like just about anything with Bella Fleck.
The guys I'm working with are friends with the woman who took all their pictures and for Ben's cd.
    What a small world!
