Reformation Sunday

So I don't usually talk much about religion on here, partly because I don't really know enough to really say anything of significance, and the other reason is it's really each persons own prerogative.

Aaaaaanyway, today was Reformation Sunday in the Christian church, and our pastor had an amazing sermon to go along with it. He lead with this bible verse (Galatians 5:1) "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free."

The basic gist of his sermon was that God calls us to love with all our minds, He wants us to think and to ask questions. He called out this craziness with churches dictating every move, thought and word for their congregants, that more churches needed to encourage their congregants to THINK!
To ask themselves if things make sense. Just because the Bible says God created the earth in 6 days, does not mean that everything was created in 144 hours.

I'm absolutely not doing it justice, I know. but it was amazing. It's sermons like these that make me want to get the church to post them online.

ok, it's late and now you can see why I don't post about religion on here. I'm just not articulate...

Miss Bugg

Miss Bugg was at the studio with me earlier this week helping out. If by helping I mean having to go to the bathroom every 30 minutes, crying because she wanted to play with my (very expensive) camera, and buying about $15 worth of apps before I caught her.

Anyway, she let me try out a couple different things in the studio and I caught a few really cute ones of her.

Miss Bugg's Party

I spent more time playing and celebrating than snapping pictures, so you'll just have to suffice with a few!

We had a small party at one of the local parks and the weather was just about perfect. We had pizza, cake and did the present thing.

Then the kids played and played and played. Lilli got a bike which she shared with her sweet cousin Elsie, Lilli and Conner flew kits with Opa, Aunt Carolyn and GG.

Then we played soccer with Uncle Tim and Aunt Gwen. (and I finally got to hold baby Ben!)

Happy Birthday Miss Bugg!

Lilli made her entrance 4 years ago today. 4 full weeks early. My water broke at 4 in the morning and she was here at 12:26pm. 5 lbs even and just 18 inches long.
She's HERE!

They took her down to the nursery right away to check on her little lungs.

Then bad news, she was having a hard time breathing so they brought her to me to say goodbye, then she and Mr A got to take a trip across the river to Kosair's.

She had to hang out in the NICU for a bit while she got some surfactant, bili light sunning, and grew a bit more. I spent most of my time during the day in the NICU waiting room and the pumping room.

Since Mr. A spent a lot of nights sleeping in the NICU waiting room and was there early morning, he got to be there for her first feeding.

On October 5th, we got to bring her home!

Then, time started to fly and she turned 1!

Now all of the sudden she's 4. Holy cow. We've had a good year.

For Halloween she wanted to be a 'Candy Corn Princess'. So this is what we came up with.

The Backyard

Most of my plants and flowers get trampled on by dogs and kids so it's rare I get to find and photograph something this fragile! (yes, 5 minutes later the dogs ate it)

School

My monkey is a big first-grader this year. For the most part he likes school-or he should like school, he definitely likes learning, and discussing what he's learned. The problem comes in when it can't be on his schedule and the kid isn't easily dissuaded. He's not really one of those kids (or people for that matter) who you can just gloss over a subject or question with a 1 or 2 sentence statement. He wants a full report on the subject. Details, details, details.

We adored his kindergarten teacher and are excited about his teacher this year as well. We've been told that she is the 'guru of reading' at the school. This is thrilling to me given how much both A and I like to read. If Monkey begins to read and enjoys it even half as much as I do, I'll be happy.

The school system decided this year to begin the elementary schools an hour earlier (don't even get me started on the school system's most recent decisions...) A takes Monkey to school in the mornings on his way to work. I've never seen a kid more excited to leave in the morning, he just adores his dad, and I'm sure the fact that they stop in at HobbKnobb for chocolate milk sometimes helps a bit.

I'm amazed at how much he's reading and spelling all on his own. We have math or spelling homework every night, which blows me a way a little bit, and it takes some persuading to get done, but he really is doing really well.

I'm so proud of you Monkey!

Nashville

This last weekend, I went down to the Southside of Nashville to visit my sweet friend, B. B is currently about 2 weeks away from her due date and I hadn't been down to her new house or met her husband (our friendship is a long, painful at times, but with a happy ending story), so I shuffled my shiz around and cleared the weekend.

I knew she was getting a little restless having been off of work for a while due to various (thankfully none too serious) complications. Plus, since she is about as adorable as adorable gets, I wanted to get some sweet pictures of her belly!

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend. I made it down late Saturday night (or early Sunday morning if you'd rather) after an eventful drive. Pouring sideways rain, dying cell phone, getting pulled over (but just a warning!)

Even though it was around 2 am my time when I arrived, we managed to set around and catch up and bs for another hour or so. I was so happy I'd made the trip and totally regretted not making it before. Even though we'd had a rather long, painful hiatus, about a year ago, we'd managed to pick up almost as though we'd never left off. I kept wondering why it took me so long to get down there, and I think I was afraid of getting to close again. B and I are pretty different on a lot of levels like political views, and our family backgrounds, she keeps her house immaculate, really digs living way out in BFE (with small woodland creatures running rampant ;-). But I have always, always felt comfortable and myself around her. I'm never self-conscious or self-doubting, and I can and do tell her everything.

Since B is so close to her due date and 100 different ways of uncomfortable, we kept it pretty low key. Did some bead shopping, yarn shopping, pit stop for a super important fountain Dr. Pepper, more yarn shopping then dinner at one of the most amazing places ever. Then we went to a fabulous Mexican lunch, more shopping, pictures, a delicious dinner (while watching the season finale of The Bachelorette, wtf). My last day, we went for an amazing pedicure and then I was on my way back home. (boo)

As I mentioned, she lives outside of Nashville, and I miss her. I miss her a lot. There might be an opportunity that they get transferred back to Louisville, or they might have to go further away. Say a prayer for us will you? I need my friend closer. :-)

A (not so clear) picture from B's baby shower.

Wanna see some of her adorable maternity pictures?

I love ya B!

Happy 6th Birthday Monkey!

I may not stay on top of this blog as regularly as I should, but I try to never miss a birthday post. Today at just after 12:30 pm, my Monkey will officially be 6 yrs old. (hang on while I process this info...)

His 5th year was a pretty good (and busy) one.
We started his 5th year with a fun monkey-themed party complete with the Bubble Bus.

On my birthday I took the kids to watch a taping of The Pumphry Brothers!

Then it was the first day of Kindergarten!

Then we went with my family to the Giants of Faith celebration to honor my Grandma.

I won tickets to Disney on Ice through a fabulous friends blog, so the kids, my sister and I hustled up to Cincy and saw the show and my friend!

In September, we celebrated Miss Bug turning 3!

end of the night. obviously

October brought a field trip to Huber's with Monkeys kindergarten class, while there, we bought stuff to make candy apples.

Then we had the big trauma of the year. Monkey fell off the monkey bars (isn't it ironic, don't ya think) and broke his arm.

Halloween! Conner was White Fang (whose arm was caught in a trap) Lilli was a Candy Corn Princess.

Then my sister graduated with her RN!

In November, we met my friend Christina for some pictures in the beautiful fall!

My Monkey and my Bug

I can hardly believe that my little Monkey is 6 years old. I remember the minute he appeared, little did I know how much joy and love he was going to bring to me and everyone he meets.

I love you Monkey, no matter what, you're something I know I did right, and will never, ever regret.
